La Mucchia - Perugia - Assisi (40-60 km)
From La Mucchia gates you take left, after crossing the bridge reaching the T junction, turn right and go toward the Trasimeno lake, after passing Terontola, you will see further a bridge, on your left hand side there are signs to Perugia go left, take this direction and get into the "Superstrada" to Perugia, it is about 40 km , if you want to visit the town, climb up with the first sign and you will find a parking place in center of the town, from there you will see indications through tunnels with mobile stairs till you reach the center.
If you would like to visit the Perugina chocolate factory, you have to go out from the superstrada prior to Perugia, place junction called Madonna Alta, from there you take the road to san Siro and you will see the Perugina factory on your right hand side, there is large parking place in front without payment.
If you continue to Assisi , just do straight and cross Perugia on the superstrada another 20 km and you will see Assisi on your left hand side, a hill with white stone houses. When you enter the city, before climbing up the hill, visit the Basilica of Saint Francisco, it is downhill, the rest of the visit points are on top of the hill, parking up as close to the main gate, parking place with payment, and visit the saint Claire church with the cross of San Damiano, (Same cross as replica of its hanging in each suite at La Mucchia, painted by Russian artist specialized by sacred icon paintings).
La Mucchia - Orvietto - Bagnoregio (70-80 km)
You have to enter the A1 highway, go out of the gate to the right, reach 1st T junction take right on the second T junction turn left, continue till you see signs to the right "Siena - Valdichiana - A1" take right and go till you exit on Valdichiaana, enter the autostrada take the Roma direction and go straight till you see Orvietto to the right (About 70 km).
Once you visited Orvietto and the cathedral "Duomo" which is impressive with the front sculptures of heaven and hell mystical figures, you go down the hill and take the direction to Bagnoregio which is about 10 km from Orvietto. Once you get to Bagnoregio look for Civita this is the place to visit : you will see a long bridge connecting the town with the rest, you must walk to enter the town, there are 17 families living there and that's the reason they call the place "La Citta che muore" the dying city. The church is restored; the families will invite you to see their houses for small donation of 1-5 Euros, a unique place.
La Mucchia - Castiglion Fiorentino - Arezzo (30 km)
From La Mucchia gates you take left after crossing the bridge reaching the T junction, turn left go straight all the way crossing Camucia till you will arrive to Castiglion Fiorentino (half way to Arezzo) take a break of coffee up the hill, and continue to Arezzo. If you are on the first Saturday and Sunday of the month, you can see the Antique fair in the old center of the town.
What is interesting you is thee main old center, park as close as possible and walk. Go till the end of the main street up the hill till the panoramic garden and the big Church there, spectacular views.
If you want to visit the museum of the founder of the antique market in Arezzo, private collection of life time, it is on half of the main walking street.
Trip one - La via del vino
From La Mucchia to Montepulciano it takes about 30 min drive, one of the most beautiful countryside views, breathtaking, if you like to photograph, you will have to take this itinerary in different hours of the day , at dawn when approaching Montepulciano, it is unique.
Montepulciano is a small ancient town, park in the entrance to the old town. If you would like to have wine tastings, you have to turn right 2 km before you reach Montepulciano, immediately after you cross "Esso" gas station, small narrow street will lead you to Tanagatta winery, tel them you are from La Mucchia, you will have 3 sorts of wine, you can buy this wine too, they ship it all over the world. Prices vary from 6-16 Euros a bottle.
Once you are on your way to Pienza, which is about 10 km from Montepulciano, don't enter the town with your car, just continue along the walls on your right and there you will find parking place. There is not much to do there, go to the church, walk around, there are few good coffe bars and restaurants there, if you are at noon time and you think to eat in one of their restaurant, go fast to reserve a place, if there are still available, because at 13-14 it will be crowded.
If you stil have the will to continue, you may proceed to Montalcino.to taste the Brunello wines which are made exclusively from the brunello grape, a sangiovese clone. They are aged a minimum of four years and produce wines that are long lived, richly fruited, and powerful. This is an area that no wine lover visiting Italy will want to miss. Da La Mucchia a Montepulciano ci vogliono circa 30 minuti di guida, una delle più belle viste della campagna toscana, mozzafiato, se vi piace fotografare, si dovrà prendere questo itinerario in diverse ore del giorno, all'alba, quando si avvicina Montepulciano, è unica vista .
Montepulciano è una piccola città antica, esiste un parccheggio vicino l'ingresso al centro storico. Se desiderate avere degustazioni di vini, si svolta a destra 2 km prima di raggiungere Montepulciano, immediatamente dopo aver incrociato "Esso" stazione di benzina, piccolo vicolo vi condurrà alla cantina Tanagatta, gli ditte che voi siete da La Mucchia, si avranno 3 tipi di vino, si possono acquistare anche questi vini, che poi spediscono in tutto il mondo. Non c'è molto da fare lì, andare in chiesa, in giro, ci sono pochi bar caffè e ristoranti lì, se sei a mezzogiorno e si pensa a mangiare in uno dei loro ristorante, andate velocemente per prenotare un posto, se vi sono ancora disponibili, perché da 13-14 sarà affollato.
Se avete ancora la volontà di continuare, si può procedere per degustare i vini Brunello di Montalcino, che sono ottenuti esclusivamente da uve Brunello, un clone di Sangiovese. Sono di età compresa tra un minimo di quattro anni, il gusto e riccamente fruttato, e potente. Questo è un settore che un appassionato di vino in visita in Italia non vuole perdere.
